Psalm 105 verses 17-19 NIV)
and he sent a man before them—
Joseph, sold as a slave.
They bruised his feet with shackles,
his neck was put in irons,
till what he foretold came to pass,
till the word of the LORD proved him true.
When God makes us a promise, we have to hold on to it. Sometimes the promise comes with a timescale. Abraham, although he had to wait for his heir, was eventually told that at the same time the following year Sarah would have a son.
But at other times there is no timescale, and as we saw a couple of days ago, we just have to hold on to God’s promises no matter what. Joseph was given a promise from God when he was a young, confident, if somewhat cocky young man. But he had to hold on to that promise through the most unexpected and difficult of circumstances. Yet we read that what God foretold came to pass. Joseph’s brothers may have mocked him, but at the right time God’s word proved him true. Let’s remember that when we’re tempted to give up waiting.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that Your Word is always proved true. It is utterly reliable. Help me never to give up waiting. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
