Psalm 42: Verses 6-8 (NLT Translation)
My God!
Now I am deeply discouraged,
but I will remember you—
even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan,
from the land of Mount Mizar.I hear the tumult of the raging seas
as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.
When we feel discouraged the best thing we can do is to draw close to God, even although often when we feel like this, we are tempted to stay away from God, or not bother going to church. But, as David found, drawing close is the best way for us to get through a trying or difficult time. It’s a chance for God to show how much He loves us, because He shares the experience with us.
Even during sleepless nights, David’s solace was to sing songs and pray. Surely that’s better for us than wearily tossing and turning, and will definitely lift our spirits. I am grateful that the bible shows us how to deal with difficult times and not just the good ones, and also reminds us that whatever situation we find ourselves in, God is right there with us.
Dear God,
Thank You that that the place to find encouragement when I need it, is to draw close to you, day or night. And you never turn me away. Amen.
