Proverbs chapter 23 verse 4 (NIV)
Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
do not trust your own cleverness.
So many people in the western world would themselves be wise to heed Solomon’s advice. God intended us to earn our living but not to get so caught up in making money that we wear ourselves out. The second half of this sentence is equally important. We can easily get complacent and rely on our own abilities. But they too are God given and also need to be used wisely.
Even God-given gifts can be misused. We just need to look at the example of King Solomon himself. A lesson we’d be wise to remember.
Dear Lord,
Help me to remember that all talents and gifting are God-given. Help me to use mine wisely, and for Your glory. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
