Ephesians chapter 2 verse 7(NIV)
… in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
As I pondered on this verse, I wondered what people might say if they were asked to give their definition of incomparable riches. I’m sure there would be many different ones. But how many would include the kindness and grace of God.
We are reminded in the book of Romans that it’s God’s kindness that leads us to repentance. Kindness can be underrated. But it’s one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. God knows our hearts and how undeserving we are of His grace, yet while we were sinners Christ died for us that we might be reconciled to Him. God is never harsh. He could have rebuked us for our sins, but He knows our faults and flaws and He draws us in through the grace and love of Jesus.
In return we ourselves should never underestimate the difference showing kindness can make, especially if we extend it to someone who may not have treated us well. That is when we are truly acting in the way Jesus would, and allowing Him to move through us.
Dear Lord,
Your kindness and grace humble me. Help me to cultivate the fruit of kindness in my own life so that the light of Jesus can be seen in me. I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
