16 October 2026 – What have I learned today?

1 Timothy chapter 1 verses 18-19 (NIV)

Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.

If we are to successfully persevere, as I have been pondering this week, we would be wise to follow Paul’s advice to Timothy. Keep in our minds, recalling them often, the promises and where there are, prophesies that God has given to us. We need to do that because they may not immediately come to fulfillment. We read in the Gospel that as Mary heard about all the prophesies and signs that had been given about her new born son, she stored them up in her heart and thought about them often. We should follow her example too.

If we do so it will help us to avoid what Paul describes as a “shipwreck with regard to the faith.” That’s how we also succeed in persevering.

Dear Lord,

I’m grateful for all Your promises to me. Help me to hold on to them until they come to fruition, trusting in Your faithfulness in bringing them to pass. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
