23 October 2026 – 2 Timothy chapter 2 verse 14 (NIV)

Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.

Paul’s advice to Timothy is very specific – warn God’s people not to argue over words.

To me that could be of significance with regard to some interpretations about doctrine. We need to remember not to get caught up in doctrinal arguments with Christians from different denominations. Such arguments do nothing to foster unity in the wider church. The best thing to do is let our lives be our testimony and live as Paul tells Timothy to do in the first verse in this chapter – “You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” So let’s remember to apply our words with grace.

Dear Lord,

Help me to season my words with the grace of Christ when dealing with anyone who may disagree with me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
