24 October 2026 – What have I learned today?

2 Timothy chapter 3 verses 14-15 (NIV)

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Paul reminded Timothy that he had found his faith by following the example of those who had taught him through their testimony and living out their faith. However, just as importantly, if not more so, we read that Timothy learned the Scriptures from infancy. We see Paul’s explanation as to why this is important. He explains that it’s the Scriptures that make us wise for salvation.

If we are not good at explaining our faith, the best thing we can do is point someone to what the Scriptures say. But we need to be well-versed in them too. They open our eyes to the teachings of Christ. Timothy grew up learning and knowing them. We need to teach our young people from an early age to know their bibles too. Many people have found their faith in Christ simply by reading the Scriptures. Nicky Gumbel, David Suchet and C S Lewis come to mind. So let’s not neglect both reading and teaching scripture. It is still living and active.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the access I have to Your Word. Help me to learn and share the things that You reveal. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen
