Psalm 119 verses 97 – 104 (NIV)
Oh, how I love your law!
I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me
and make me wiser than my enemies.
I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders,
for I obey your precepts.
I have kept my feet from every evil path
so that I might obey your word.
I have not departed from your laws,
for you yourself have taught me.
How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.
Continuing the theme of the importance of learning and knowing God’s word. I couldn’t miss out any of this last section of Psalm 119. It struck me as I read this portion that wisdom and insight is something which can be learned and gained, if we make the effort. They come from reading, meditating and acting on God’s word as it has been written. It is not worldly wisdom or knowledge that will make a difference to us, but reading and understanding God’s word.
By doing so, the Psalm says we will gain wisdom and insight, being taught by God Himself.
Surely such wisdom and insight will keep us on a straight path and make others notice that we have spent time with God through His word. It’s not complicated, but it does require us to make the effort. Surely, however, it’s worth it.
Dear Lord, Help me to make time to study and meditate on Your Word, so that You will teach me Your ways. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
