23 April 2023 – What have I learned today?
Joshua Chapter 3: Verses 2-4 (NIV)
After three days the officers went throughout the camp, giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.”
The Israelites had covered the same ground for forty years. But God was about to take them into a new land, somewhere they had never been before. They could no longer rely on the old familiar ways. Therefore, to stay on the right path they had to stay as close to the Ark as they were allowed. Only God knew the next part of the journey.
We too can get familiar with our routine and how we live our lives. But if God says He is going to set us on a different path, in a new direction, then we have to leave the familiar and comfortable behind and that can be a bit daunting. The only way to ensure we’re on the right road is to stick close to God, because He knows exactly where He’s taking us.
Dear Lord,
I’m a creature of habit and am comfortable with the familiar. Help me to trust and follow You when my life journey takes a new turn. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
