John Chapter 1: Verses 16-17 (NLT)
From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ
These verses, in my opinion, summarise the Good News of the Gospel. The law was given through Moses and couldn’t be kept. And still can’t because we all mess up, even with the best of intentions. So, to fulfil it completely, Jesus came and did for us what we can’t do for ourselves. We can never be perfect in this life. Jesus, however is perfect, and became the perfect sacrifice for us. Even now from God’s abundance we continue to receive one gracious blessing after another – the unmerited favour of God.
We are never far from a fresh start, no matter what we’ve done. The hard part is accepting that we can’t earn it. We just need to embrace it. And it starts with just two words…” I’m sorry!” How awesome is God?
Dear Lord,
Thank You for the unfailing love and faithfulness that comes through Jesus. May I never turn away from it, and may the wonder of it be evident in my heart to others. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
