Proverbs Chapter 12: Verse 16 (NLT)

A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.

As Solomon tells us, sometimes its unwise to fly off the handle quickly – far better to bite our tongue. It seems in this modern age that people seem very quick to take offence, or go in the huff. We seem to have forgotten the old saying, “least said soonest mended.” If we have a misunderstanding with someone, far better to sort it out calmly. We do need to be wise about how we respond to things. Thankfully we can ask the Holy Spirit to help us with that. We will always need His help and guidance, especially if we are hot headed by nature.

Dear Lord,

Help me not to be quick to take offence, or to fire back a harsh retort, even if I think its justified. Help me to follow Jesus’ example of behaviour. He did not retaliate against those who spoke ill of Him, or disagreed with His teaching. Help me to grow more like Him I pray. Amen.
