1 Chronicles Chapter 22: verses 12-13 (NIV)
“May the Lord give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God. Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”
What qualities did David ask on behalf of his son Solomon as he prepared to take over the throne? Wisdom and discernment to follow the ways of God with strength and courage. Surely these are qualities we would hope for, both for ourselves and the young people that we love.
We all have differing talents, strengths and weaknesses that make us all unique, but the qualities that David sought for his son are just as important for all of us, regardless of our age and what we do. We would do well therefore to echo David’s prayer for our daily lives.
Dear Lord,
Whatever I need to do in daily life, may I too have wisdom and discretion to follow Your direction as I go about each day, and the strength and courage to do it well as a good ambassador for Jesus. I ask in His name. Amen.
