Psalm 105: Verses 17-19 (NIV)

And he sent a man before them—

    Joseph, sold as a slave.

They bruised his feet with shackles,

his neck was put in irons,

till what he foretold came to pass,

till the word of the Lord proved him true.

This part of Psalm 105 is a reminder to hold on to whatever promise God has given us, even if it looks like we may have misheard what He said. Joseph must have wondered at times if he had misunderstood what God’s plan for him was. Yet in the midst of awful times, there was more than one glimmer of light. Enough to make him keep believing and hold on to that promise. And finally, when the time was right, God brought everything to pass, just as he said. And Joseph was a better man at the time the promise was fulfilled than when he had been when it was originally given.

So if we are certain of a calling, a promise or a particular move of God, we need to hold on to it, seek after it, and ponder it often, but in the meantime till it’s fulfilled, as it will be in God’s time, lets rejoice at all the glimmers of light that we find in the interim.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for Joseph’s example of persevering hope and trust. May I do my best to follow that example. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
