2 Corinthians Chapter 8: Verses 21-22 (NIV)

For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man.In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.

Paul was never concerned about what people thought of him. After all, he had told the Corinthians in his first letter to them that he knew that for some people his dedication to Christ made him seem like a fool. (1 Corinthians Chapter 4: verse 10) However, he wanted to guard his testimony so that Jesus was beyond criticism, so he was very careful how he conducted church affairs, especially regarding financial offerings.

We too need to be careful that as we go about our daily lives, we don’t give people the opportunity to say that our witness for Jesus is flawed because of the way we conduct ourselves. That is not only in terms of monetary matters, but also with regard to our manners and attitude. Jesus paid a high price for us. He doesn’t deserve to be discredited by our behaviour.

Dear Lord,

Help me to remember that in normal, every day living I am a representative of Jesus, meant to bring You honour and glory. May that be reflected in how I behave. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
