Ephesians Chapter 5: Verses 8-10 (NIV)
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.
How often do we see that when someone has done something wrong, they try to hide it, or are reluctant to talk about it? As Christians we should be reflecting how Jesus would live; we should be open and transparent in all that we do and how we live our lives. However, that doesn’t mean that we should be perfect – only Jesus is perfect. But it means admitting openly when we’re wrong and putting right any mistakes.
How often have we wanted to please someone and have made an effort to find out what would bring them the most pleasure, sometimes simply by asking, “What would you like me to do for you?” Paul told the Ephesians that we should find out what pleases God. When did we last ask Him, “What would You like me to do?” He doesn’t need us to do anything for Him. He can do all things – He is God, after all. But He chooses to use us, and it brings Him pleasure when we make the decision to do what pleases Him.
Dear Lord,
Help me to be open, honest and transparent in the way that I live my life. And help me to do what pleases You, rather than putting my own desires first. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
