28 September 2023 – What have I learned today?

Nahum Chapter 1: Verse 3 (NIV)

The Lord is slow to anger but great in power;
    the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.
His way is in the whirlwind and the storm,
    and clouds are the dust of his feet.

Nahum Chapter 1: Verse 7 (NIV)

The Lord is good,
    a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him.

With great power comes great responsibility, but sometimes those with power are quick to anger, and the consequences of actions taken in anger can have far reaching consequences. That’s why we need to emulate God and be slow to anger. God had so much reason to be angry at the way the world has behaved and yet time after time we are given another chance. However, we need not think that God doesn’t notice unfairness, injustice and wickedness. He gives us all a chance to repent and change our ways, but for those who choose not to, He will deal with in the fulness of time.

When we need to take refuge, if we are feeling battered, bruised and vulnerable, God offers refuge to us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But He won’t push us in, or drag us in, we need to seek the refuge and walk in by ourselves.

Dear Lord,

On such a stormy, windy day as it is today, I’m grateful that You extend refuge and mercy, as well as justice, and I can always seek that refuge when I feel overwhelmed by my circumstances. Help me too, to be slow to anger and quick to forgive. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
