Philippians Chapter 1: Verse 6: (NIV)
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
I can hardly believe that we are almost into October. Where have the last nine months gone? I’m sure the next three months will go by just as quickly, and then we will be into another year! As I look back to the beginning of this year at the plans and aspirations I had for 2023, I can see that I am fortunate to have been able to have achieve much of what I hoped to, but not everything, yet. There are still things I need to work on, but hopefully I will.
When a new year comes, there is, for many, a sense of anticipation, but then, at this stage of the year, do we still have that, or have we written off the plans we had because things have not gone the way we had hoped? There may be good reason why we haven’t achieved what we hoped to, but that doesn’t mean we should give up.
When we decide to become a Christian – a committed follower of Jesus, we may have that sense of anticipation. However, over the following months and years we may have had our share of difficult times, and maybe even made wrong choices along the way. But does that mean we should give up? Thank God, He doesn’t! He began to outwork His plans for us when we decided to follow Jesus. He knows all our thoughts and our actions, and He has no plan to throw in the towel!
Let’s be glad that if He hasn’t given up on us, that means we can pock ourselves up and move on, knowing that God will continue His good work in our lives. Its an ongoing thing that will continue in our life until eternity. 2023 is just a small part of the picture. So, let’s keep moving forward. We’ve come this far. God is still willing to change all that needs changing. It doesn’t matter if the work isn’t finished by the end of 2023. God’s timing is perfect and He knows what lies ahead.
Dear Lord,
I’m grateful that You know me better than I know myself, and You know the plans You want to fulfil in my life. Help me to persist and to stick to the path You have mapped out for me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
