1 Thessalonians Chapter 4: Verses 10-12 (NIV)

Indeed, you already show your love for all the believers throughout Macedonia. Even so, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you to love them even more. Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

We show our love for Christ, and for others, not just by what we say, but in how we conduct our lives and how we treat other people. Paul commended the Thessalonians for the way they were living and he urged them to continue, but he also asked that they could take things up another notch. He also encouraged them not to put themselves first, or aim to be the centre of attention. There can be a danger that in our eagerness to share our faith we can sometimes be a bit too “in your face” which might put some people off, but if our conduct and behaviour reflect what we say, and if we do our best to imitate Christ, then it should become obvious that our faith is genuine.

Dear Lord,

Help me to do as Paul taught the Thessalonians – to love others, lead a quiet life, and to mind my own business so that I don’t do anything to discredit the Lord Jesus. I ask in His Name. Amen
