18 October 2023 – What have I learned today?

I have considered my ways and have turned my steps to your statutes.  I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.

Luke Chapter 14: Verses 28-29 (NIV)

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you…”

There are times when we need to give a considered response, but there are also times when we need to give an immediate one. For example, Jesus taught His disciples that there are times when we need to consider all costs and implications before proceeding. When there are big life-changing decisions to be made, it’s certainly right to pray and ask God for His direction on the issue. He will not leave us wanting if our enquiries are sincere.

But there are times when God expects us to proceed without delay, especially where we sense the prompting of the Holy Spirit, encouraging us for example, to pray for someone, talk to someone or go to a particular place. These are the prompts we need to respond to and certainly never ignore. When God gives an instruction, He expects us to be obedient and act on what He says as soon as possible.

Both types of response have their place at the right time, we just need the discernment and wisdom to give the proper response to the situations that arise and ensure that we are seeking to do the right thing in God’s eyes.

Dear Lord,

I ask for wisdom and discernment, and the ability to know Your will, but more importantly to be obedient to it. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
