20 October 2023 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 119: Verses 65-68 (NLT)

You have done many good things for me, LORD, just as you promised.  I believe in your commands; now teach me good judgment and knowledge.  I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word. You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.

The Psalmist records how God has kept the promises He made to him, and confirming how He believed God’s commands. We too can look back at our lives and see how God has also kept His promises to us. However, it’s important for us not just to believe God’s commands, but to carry them out too. And also like the psalmist we need to stick closely to what the word of God teaches us.

When we do mess up, there may be times when God, as a good Father, has to discipline us, and we may find there are consequences to our actions. So that’s why we need to echo the prayer of the psalmist when he asks God to teach him good judgement and knowledge. After all, making bad choices and questionable decisions are often the reasons we get ourselves into trouble in the first place.

Isn’t this request also a good thing for us to pray for our young people and those we love? In our current climate, God-given knowledge and judgement is needed more than ever.

Dear Lord,

You have indeed done so many good things for me, which deserve my heartfelt thanks and praise.

But I still make wrong decisions and choices sometimes. Teach me good knowledge and judgement and keep me following Your word. Grant all the young people who I know and love that same judgement and knowledge that will keep them om Your path for them. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
