19 December 2023 – What have I learned today?

Ezra Chapter 5: Verse 5 (NIV)

But the eye of their God was watching over the elders of the Jews, and they were not stopped until a report could go to Darius and his written reply be received.

The original plan to rebuild the temple was delayed due to interference by the enemies of the people, but God’s plans are never thwarted, and His timing is always right. Here we see that in spite of continued attempts to stop the building work, God had His hand on the plans and the work continued.

We might sometimes experience delays and attempts to hamper something we feel called to do, but Gods eye is also on us and, His timing for us is also perfect.  And isn’t it comforting to know that God’s eye is missing nothing. Jesus Himself reinforced that when He said, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew Chapter 10: verses 29-31). That’s something worth taking forward with us into the new year.

Dear Lord,

I’m astounded that in the vastness of the world, You know even the number of hairs on my head. Thank You for the love and care You have showed through Jesus. May I never be fooled into thinking that just because things always go the way I expect, that means You are not interested in me. Amen.
